Mitchell Overton Wins Wild & Crazy Fishing Tournament with 108lb Shark!
Rough seas did not stop anglers from reeling in Grouper, King Mackerel, Amberjack – and even a few sharks – during the 5th Annual Wild & Crazy Fishing Tournament! 30 Charter and 2 Private boats and more than 300 anglers competed for the Biggest Fish (overall) and the largest in several categories. Tournament entries were automatically qualified for prizes in Destin’s Fishing Rodeo, a month-long tournament featuring thousands of dollars worth of cash and prizes.
2009 Tournament Winners
Biggest Fish: Mitchell Overton (son of Keith Overton) fishing with the CTB Client Rewards team with an impressive 108 lb shark
2nd Biggest Fish: Mike Carraway with Fisher Brown for a 103 lb shark
3rd Biggest Fish: Keith Overton with a 22lb Amberjack
1st Place Grouper: Sihle’s Tom Cleary for an 11 lb Grouper
1st Place Tringer: Matthew Overton (son of Keith Overton) with a 3.9 lb catch
1st Place Amberjack: Keith Overton, fishing with the CTB crew, ironically aboard a boat called “Tradewinds”, took the Amberjack category
1st Place Mackerel: Jenna Wyatt with a 19 lb King Mackerel Grand Slam: the Ashberry Waters team with a Trigger Mackerel and Grouper.
Best Dressed: AmeriGas impressed the crowd when they arrived at the Captains Party in matching black and red attire to sweep the Best Dressed Category
Craziest Team: The anglers fishing with Abacus secured the Craziest Team when they docked at the marina with the Thirsty Goat’s Jason Bogan fishing in a full goat getup.
